The Cason Howell House at 1575 Kipling Street was built by Cason Howell and his wife, Mary, 1870-1874, on 160 acres of farmland acquired by the Howells in 1867. The Howells grew a variety of crops including oats, alfalfa, timothy, and fruit trees. They also ran a dairy.

The house was originally red brick, and its architecture is Italianate style. Later, it was covered with stucco. Additions have been made to the South and West sides.

As of 2014, the property was owned by the City of Lakewood and functioned as a community center for the residents of Willow Glen Senior Housing. The Cason Howell House was placed on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties. It is representative of the historic farms, orchards and dairies that existed throughout what is now Lakewood.

Courtesy jeffco.us/placenames: "When the Civil War broke out, Cason Howell, living in Missouri left with his son by horseback because he did not want to fight. He told his family they would meet again on the banks of the Cherry Creek, at old Arapahoe Street. The women sold all the family possessions, accepting only gold currency in exchange and burying the money in the yard. When they reached Denver in their covered wagon they were surely the only pioneers to stop along the banks of Cherry Creek and washed $7,000 from a soap barrel instead of from sands trapped in a miner's pan. The Howells had 40 acres on Colfax and Kipling."
